Nobu Hospitality has announced plans to open a new
luxury destination at Monte Rei in Portugal's Eastern Algarve. The project will
include a Nobu Hotel, a signature Nobu restaurant, private villas and branded
residences, marking the brand's second destination in Portugal.
Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the
hotel scheduled to welcome its first guests in 2029. The development forms part
of a wider investment programme led by Norfin that will expand Monte Rei's
hospitality, residential and leisure offering, with further additions such as a
beach club planned for the future.
New resort concept in the Eastern Algarve
Monte Rei is set within more than 1,000 acres of
countryside and is centred around its Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. The
new development will combine Nobu's approach to luxury hospitality, design and
dining with the resort's established focus on golf, privacy and residential
living.
The hotel will feature 100 rooms and suites, along
with a Nobu restaurant and a range of guest amenities. Around 21,000 square
metres will be dedicated to Nobu villas and branded residences.
Building on Monte Rei's reputation
Over the past two decades, Monte Rei has developed an
international reputation for its golf course, service standards, residential
community and location in the Eastern Algarve.
The next phase is intended to create a more complete
year-round destination for residents, members and hotel guests while preserving
the privacy and character of the resort.
International design team appointed
DSA Architects and Rockwell Group have been selected
to develop the architectural and interior design concept. Rockwell Group has
worked with Nobu on several previous projects and will help adapt the brand's
understated design style to the landscape and character of the Eastern Algarve.
Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality, said the site
combines natural beauty, privacy and an established reputation for high-quality
golf and residential living.
Miguel Mateus, CEO of Norfin, described the
partnership as an important milestone for Monte Rei and said the Nobu Hotel,
restaurant and residences would strengthen the resort's international appeal.
