IHG Hotels & Resorts has surpassed the milestone
of 200 open hotels in Canada, reinforcing its position in one of the company's
key growth markets. With nearly 40 additional hotels in the development
pipeline and several new brands preparing to enter the Canadian market, IHG
continues to expand its multi-brand portfolio across the country.
Growing tourism supports expansion
The company's continued investment comes as Canada's
tourism sector is expected to enjoy another strong year. According to
Destination Canada, visitor spending is forecast to increase by 6% in 2026,
exceeding US$140 billion, supported by renewed growth in both international and
domestic travel.
"Reaching 200 open IHG hotels in Canada is a
testament to the strength of our brands, the dedication of our teams and the
trust our owners place in us," said Jolyon Bulley, Chief Executive
Officer, Americas, IHG Hotels & Resorts. "With a balance of major
metropolitan cities and scenic natural landscapes, Canada offers a stay for
every traveller and occasion. We remain focused on capitalising on this growing
demand by delivering the right brands in the right locations to meet evolving guest
needs."
Nearly 40 additional hotels in development
IHG plans to further strengthen its Canadian presence
with almost 40 hotels currently under development. Six additional properties
are scheduled to open later this year, including Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites
and Staybridge Suites hotels in Barrie, Aurora East, Pembroke and Woodstock.
These openings will build on the seven hotels launched
across Canada in 2025, including a Crowne Plaza in Toronto and four Staybridge
Suites properties.
New brands enter the Canadian market
The expansion also includes the introduction of
several of IHG's newest brands. voco hotels, currently the company's
fastest-growing premium brand worldwide, has recently signed its first Canadian
properties in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Niagara Falls.
IHG is also preparing to introduce its Garner brand to
Canada in 2027 with three hotels planned for southern Alberta, including Red
Deer, Medicine Hat and a property near Calgary International Airport. The brand
is designed to meet growing demand for high-quality midscale conversion
opportunities while expanding IHG's presence in this market segment.
