As the year-end travel season approaches, digital
travel platform Agoda has released new insights into the most affordable flight
routes across Asia. The analysis is based on bookings made from September 2025
onward for departures between December 20 and 31. The findings show that
Thailand leads the way for low-cost domestic travel, with fares starting from
just USD 6, while Malaysia and Indonesia stand out for international routes,
with prices beginning at USD 25.
The Christmas and New Year period remains one of the
busiest travel seasons of the year. With schools closed and many workplaces
offering extended holidays, travelers take advantage of the break to visit
family, discover new destinations or simply unwind. This concentration of
travel demand makes price-conscious planning especially important for those
looking to make the most of their holiday time.
Thailand tops the list for domestic value
Within domestic travel, Thailand emerged as the most
affordable market. One of the lowest fares recorded was the Udon Thani–Bangkok
route at USD 6, offering easy access to the capital’s festive atmosphere, with
illuminated streets, seasonal markets and cultural celebrations. South Korea
and Malaysia followed closely, with domestic fares from USD 9 on routes such as
Jeju–Seoul and Bario–Miri. India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan and Taiwan rounded
out the list, with the most economical domestic fares ranging from USD 15 to
USD 45.
Malaysia and Indonesia lead international
affordability
For cross-border travel, Malaysia and Indonesia shared
first place for the most affordable international routes. Flights such as Johor
Bahru–Phuket and Pontianak–Kuching were booked from USD 25, offering easy
escapes to island destinations and nature-rich regions during the holiday
season. Thailand ranked second, with flights from Krabi to Kuala Lumpur
starting at USD 28. Other competitively priced international routes were found
in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam and India, with fares ranging from USD 32
to USD 73.
Affordable flights matter most during peak season
Andrew Smith, Senior Vice President of Supply at
Agoda, underlined the importance of accessible pricing during this peak period:

your holiday dreams come true.”
