Experiences are becoming the driving force behind
travel decisions in Asia, according to new booking data released by digital
travel platform Agoda. The company's analysis of the first six months of 2026
highlights a strong preference for attractions that combine entertainment,
adventure and family-friendly activities, with theme parks dominating bookings
in several key markets.
Theme parks dominate across major destinations
Theme parks secured the top position in three of
Asia's leading travel markets. Hong Kong Disneyland ranked as the most-booked
attraction in Asia overall, while Tokyo Disney Resort led bookings in Japan and
Lotte World topped the list in South Korea. The results underline the growing
role of major attractions as primary travel motivations rather than optional
additions to a holiday.
Nature and wildlife experiences attract growing
interest
Beyond theme parks, travelers also showed strong
demand for outdoor and wildlife attractions. In Vietnam, Sun World Fansipan
Legend in Sapa emerged as the country's most-booked activity, with visitors
drawn by the cable car journey to Fansipan, the highest mountain in Indochina.
The result reflects increasing interest in nature-based experiences beyond
major urban destinations.
Marine and wildlife attractions also proved highly
popular. Aquaria KLCC recorded the highest number of bookings in Malaysia,
while Jakarta Aquarium Safari led the Indonesian market. Agoda noted that the
Indonesian attraction has quickly become one of the country's most sought-after
visitor experiences.
Adventure and scenic tours remain popular
In Thailand, Bangkok's Skyflyers Giant Swing ranked as
the country's leading attraction, highlighting the city's growing appeal for
adventure-based activities. In Taiwan, the North Coast Tour featuring Jiufen
and Yehliu attracted the highest number of bookings, demonstrating the enduring
popularity of guided day trips that combine cultural and natural highlights.
"The data shows that travelers are letting
experiences lead, and theme parks are the clearest proof of that, topping the
charts independently in three markets across Asia," said Andrew Smith,
Senior Vice President, Supply at Agoda. "Whether it's Hong Kong Disneyland
or a cable car above the clouds in Vietnam, people are creating itineraries
built around the activities that bring the destination to life. Agoda makes it
easy to discover and book the activities that matter most, wherever your next
trip takes you."
Agoda currently offers access to more than 300,000
bookable activities worldwide, alongside over six million accommodation options
and more than 130,000 flight routes. Its portfolio also includes an official
partnership with Hong Kong Disneyland, providing travelers with access to
exclusive experiences.
