Booking flexibility is becoming an increasingly
important factor for travelers in Asia. According to new search data from
digital travel platform Agoda, options such as free cancellation and payment at
the hotel have become some of the most frequently used search filters in 2026,
reflecting a growing preference for convenience and greater control when
planning trips.
While accommodation type remains the most commonly
used search filter, accounting for 19 percent of all filter usage across Asia,
travelers are increasingly considering flexible booking conditions alongside
the location and type of accommodation.
Travelers seek greater control over their trips
Agoda's data indicates that flexibility influences the
entire booking journey. Beyond refundable reservations, travelers are also
refining their searches using practical criteria such as preferred bed
configurations, parking availability and proximity to public transport.
The findings suggest that guests are looking for
accommodation that matches their individual travel style, whether they are
planning a spontaneous road trip, travelling with family or friends, or
combining several destinations within one itinerary.
“Search filters can reveal what travelers want to know
before they book whether that's the right accommodation type, greater
flexibility or confidence in the quality of a stay,” said Andrew Smith, Senior
Vice President, Supply at Agoda.
“For accommodation providers, these insights can be a
roadmap for meeting evolving traveler expectations. Properties that make their
value proposition clear, highlight the amenities guests care about most, and
reduce booking friction will be better positioned to increase visibility,
encourage conversion in an increasingly competitive market.”
Agoda outlines recommendations for accommodation
providers
Based on the latest search trends, Agoda encourages
hotels and accommodation providers to reduce barriers during the booking
process by offering flexible cancellation policies and payment options,
including pay-at-hotel where appropriate.
The company also recommends maintaining detailed and
accurate property listings. Facilities and services should be clearly
categorised and tagged so that accommodation appears in relevant filtered
searches. Transparent descriptions of amenities and booking conditions are also
becoming increasingly important.
A further recommendation is to tailor property
presentations to the preferences of individual source markets. Rather than
adopting a uniform approach, accommodation providers should highlight the
features that matter most to their target guests, whether family-friendly
facilities, breakfast offerings or convenient access to public transport.
Visibility increasingly depends on guest expectations
According to Agoda, accommodation providers that adapt
to evolving booking behaviour can improve their visibility on the platform and
increase booking conversions. The company currently offers access to more than
six million accommodation listings worldwide, over 130,000 flight routes and
more than 300,000 travel activities through its integrated travel marketplace.
