D-ABPU to join the fleet as a “flying ambassador” and begin scheduled service in January 2026
Lufthansa’s 100th-anniversary special-livery Boeing 787-9 arrives in Frankfurt this December

Lufthansa will welcome its newest Boeing 787-9 to Frankfurt shortly before Christmas. The aircraft, named Berlin and registered D-ABPU, features a special livery created for the airline’s 100th anniversary in 2026. After receiving its paintwork at Boeing’s Charleston facility in South Carolina, the Dreamliner was transferred to Everett, Washington, and is now preparing for delivery to Germany.

The anniversary design blends heritage and innovation: a deep blue fuselage carries a striking white crane, whose wings flow seamlessly into the aircraft’s own — turning the 787-9 into a symbolic “flying ambassador” for the next century of Lufthansa aviation.

Lufthansa expects D-ABPU to enter regular scheduled service in January 2026.
