Thailand has strengthened its position among the
world’s leading holiday destinations for 2026, ranking second globally, while
Bangkok has secured the top spot as the most booked city destination worldwide.
This is according to the latest Ticket Collection 2026 report, based on booking
data recorded up to 8 January 2026 and confirmed by the Tourism Authority of
Thailand (TAT).
The figures point to a clear upswing in travel demand.
Overall bookings for travel in 2026 are up 37% compared with the same period
last year. Europe continues to account for the largest share of bookings at
63%, but Asia now represents 25%, signalling a notable acceleration in demand
for Asian destinations. Within this shift, Bangkok stands out as the single
most booked city destination for the year ahead.
Strong year-on-year gains for Thailand and Bangkok
Thailand’s current ranking marks a significant
improvement on 2025, when the country placed fifth among the global top 10
holiday destinations. Bangkok has also advanced, moving from second place last
year to first in the global city ranking for 2026. Together, these results
underscore Thailand’s growing appeal and its strengthened competitive position
in international markets.
“Thailand’s rise to second place globally, alongside
Bangkok’s position as the world’s most booked city for 2026, reflects continued
traveller confidence and the effectiveness of our strategy to drive quality-led
tourism,” said Ms Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of
Thailand. “These results reinforce Thailand’s position as a preferred
destination offering depth, diversity, and memorable experiences that resonate
strongly with international travellers.”
Nordic markets and long-haul demand gain momentum
The Ticket Collection 2026 findings highlight
sustained European dominance in overall booking volumes, while also pointing to
growing interest in Asia. For Thailand, the data signals strong forward
momentum in long-haul markets, particularly across the Nordic region, and
confirms Bangkok’s role as a leading global gateway city supporting the
country’s wider tourism ecosystem.
The report is based on data compiled by Ticket.se, the
largest travel agency group in the Nordic region, which operates across
Scandinavia and Europe through an integrated omnichannel network combining
online platforms with physical travel agencies.
