The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has
successfully concluded its initiative “Travel Thailand with Diplomats: 5 Must
Do Happiness on Every Route”, a programme designed to showcase Thailand’s
cultural richness, soft power, and community-based tourism. The project is part
of TAT’s broader strategy to strengthen international relations and promote the
“Thai Charm” concept — blending authentic local experiences with hospitality,
creativity, and sustainable travel.
Diplomacy through experience
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool emphasized that
tourism can serve as a powerful bridge between nations:
“The Travel Thailand with Diplomats programme reflects
our belief that cultural exchange is one of the most meaningful forms of
diplomacy. By inviting the diplomatic community to experience the 5 Must Do
activities firsthand, we share not only Thailand’s beauty but also its values,
creativity, and warmth.”
Through immersive travel, diplomats were encouraged to
engage with local traditions, supporting communities and strengthening positive
perceptions of Thailand abroad.
Three routes, one shared purpose
The programme covered Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, and
Chiang Mai, each highlighting a different aspect of Thai tourism — from
wellness and gastronomy to adventure and cultural heritage. The itineraries
integrated Thailand’s Soft Power 5F pillars: Food, Fashion, Film, Fight, and
Festival, showcasing the depth and diversity of Thai culture.
Ratchaburi (13–14 September 2025): Focused on wellness
tourism, featuring traditional Thai massage, herbal balm crafting, and local
snack preparation. Diplomats joined a serene almsgiving ceremony on bamboo
rafts at O Poi Market and explored unique community products.
Phetchaburi (20–21 September 2025): A UNESCO Creative
City of Gastronomy, where participants experienced community-based tourism in Laem
Phak Bia and Tham Rong villages. They learned to prepare palm-based delicacies
like Khanom Tan and Gang Kua Hua Tan, and sampled local drinks symbolising the
region’s agricultural identity.
Chiang Mai (27–28 September 2025): Highlighted adventure
and creativity, including Muay Thai training at Banchamek Village, nature
excursions, and Michelin-recognised culinary experiences celebrating Northern
Thai cuisine.
Strengthening cultural connections
By engaging diplomats directly with local communities,
the initiative promoted inclusive economic development and sustainability. It
also reinforced Thailand’s global reputation as a vibrant, welcoming, and
forward-looking destination — where cultural encounters create genuine human
connections.
The “Travel Thailand with Diplomats” programme
ultimately reaffirms TAT’s vision of tourism as a tool of friendship and shared
happiness, where every journey becomes a bridge of understanding between
Thailand and the world.
