Delta Air Lines and Hyatt are joining forces to
connect their loyalty programs more closely across flights and hotel stays. The
companies have announced a long-term strategic relationship between Delta
SkyMiles and World of Hyatt, scheduled to launch in the coming months. The
initial focus will be on elite members, while further details on eligibility
and additional benefits will be announced later.
At the heart of the partnership is an effort to create
a more connected experience between air travel and accommodation. Members who
qualify will be recognized across both ecosystems and gain additional
opportunities to earn rewards without having to choose between the two
programs.
Dual Earn connects flights and hotel stays
The first major feature will be a new Dual Earn
benefit. Delta Medallion members will earn SkyMiles miles on eligible spending
during qualifying Hyatt stays, in addition to certain World of Hyatt benefits.
World of Hyatt elite members will in turn earn World
of Hyatt points on qualifying Delta fare classes while continuing to receive
certain SkyMiles benefits. The companies have not yet disclosed the full
eligibility rules or detailed earning structure.
Beyond Dual Earn, Delta and Hyatt plan further
opportunities for members of both programs, including access to personalized
events and exclusive experiences.
“At Delta, premium has never been about just a seat –
it’s a standard of care that shows up throughout the journey,” said Delta Air
Lines CEO Ed Bastian. “Hyatt shares that same premium approach to everything
from travel and dining to entertainment and accommodations, and it’s what makes
them such a natural fit.”
Two global travel networks come together
The partnership combines two large international
travel ecosystems. Hyatt currently operates 36 brands across five portfolios –
Luxury, Lifestyle, Inclusive, Classics and Essentials – with a presence in 83
countries.
Delta serves more than 200 million customers annually
and flies to more than 300 destinations across six continents. For the airline,
adding a dedicated hotel loyalty partner also expands the SkyMiles ecosystem
beyond the flight itself.
“Exceptional travel extends far beyond a hotel stay –
it's about creating memorable experiences throughout the full travel journey,”
said Mark Hoplamazian, Chairman, President and CEO of Hyatt. “By bringing
together two brands with a shared commitment to care and exceptional
hospitality, we're making it easier for our members to enjoy a more connected
and rewarding experience, from takeoff to check out.”
Partnership designed to expand over time
The companies intend the initial reciprocal earning
benefits to be the starting point rather than the full scope of the
cooperation. Additional ways to earn rewards and engage with both loyalty
programs are planned after launch.
For Delta, the agreement forms part of a broader
strategy to extend SkyMiles across more stages of a customer's trip. “Delta’s
relationship with Hyatt is being built with a different level of ambition – and
it deepens over time,” Bastian said. “For Delta, it's also a meaningful step
toward the broader vision of making SkyMiles the most loved loyalty ecosystem
in travel – not just for flying, but for the entire journey.”
