Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways diverts flights to Saudi airport amid airspace closure
Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways has temporarily diverted its
flight operations to Saudi Arabia following the closure of Kuwait’s airspace,
according to reports by the state news agency KUNA.
Flights are currently landing and departing from
Qaisumah Airport in Hafr al-Batin, located in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
The airport lies roughly two and a half hours by road from Kuwait.
Passengers continue journeys by road
The airline said passengers arriving on diverted
flights can continue their journey into Kuwait by road, while departing
travellers can reach the Saudi airport by land before boarding their flights.
“Arriving passengers can continue their journey by
road into Kuwait, and departing passengers can travel to the airport by road,
provided they possess a valid visa to enter Saudi Arabia,” the airline said.
Regional tensions disrupt air travel
The operational changes come as tensions in the region
escalate following a joint US and Israeli attack on Iran last week. The strikes
reportedly resulted in more than 1,200 fatalities, including Iran’s Supreme
Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior military officials.
Iran responded with missile and drone attacks
targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, contributing to
growing security concerns across the region and affecting aviation operations.
