Indonesia: Archipelago Hotels expands wellness offerings across 77 properties

Archipelago Hotels is expanding wellness as an integral part of the hotel experience across Indonesia. A total of 77 properties in the group’s network now offer at least one dedicated wellness facility, ranging from spas and fitness centres to saunas, jacuzzis and organised activities such as yoga, zumba and pilates.

The development reflects a broader shift in travel behaviour. According to the Indonesia Tourism Outlook 2025/2026 cited by the company, health and wellness tourism is expected to continue growing as travellers increasingly combine holidays and business trips with relaxation, exercise and attention to physical and mental wellbeing.

Spa services lead the wellness offering

Spa treatments are currently the most widespread wellness service within the Archipelago Hotels network, available at 67 properties. Fitness centres can be found at 55 hotels, while 31 properties have swimming pools.

Six hotels offer saunas and four have jacuzzis. Organised fitness activities are available at 12 properties. The wellness facilities are distributed across Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.

They are offered under several of the group’s brands, including Aston, Kamuela, The Alana, Harper, Quest Hotels, Hotel Neo and fave hotel.

Indonesian traditions incorporated into spa treatments

Alongside conventional fitness and relaxation facilities, some properties incorporate Indonesian wellness traditions into their spa programmes. Archipelago Hotels works with operators including Alaya Spa, Annathaya Spa, Kamma Spa and Apsara Spa to provide treatments influenced by local practices.

The combination is intended to allow guests to continue established exercise routines while travelling while also offering relaxation experiences linked to the destinations themselves.

This approach targets both leisure and business travellers, reflecting the growing overlap between conventional hotel facilities and services previously associated primarily with dedicated wellness resorts.

Hotels take on a broader role

“The health and wellness tourism trend is projected to keep rising as more travellers make health, relaxation and life balance an essential part of their travel experience,” says John Flood, CEO of Archipelago Hotels.

According to Flood, this is also changing the function of hotels. “We see the role of hotels evolving, not only as places to stay, but also as spaces that support a healthy lifestyle and guest wellbeing.”

Archipelago Hotels therefore plans to continue developing wellness facilities across its different brands. “Through the development of wellness facilities across our brands, we strive to deliver a stay experience that is increasingly relevant to the needs and lifestyles of today's travellers,” Flood says.
