Discover
the unique beauty of Haman, which can only be found in the month of May.
Ipggok
County Park – A relaxing getaway in lush nature
During
the spring, Ipggok County Park comes alive with over 10 species of vibrant
greenery and blooming spring flowers that surround the peaceful reservoir. The
highlight of the park is the 96-meter-long Ipggok Suspension Bridge, stretching
across the serene waters and offering both a thrilling experience and stunning
panoramic views. It is the perfect spot to capture memorable photos too.
For
a more immersive experience, head to Ara Healing Café, where you can peacefully
glide across the reservoir in an electric-powered boat or enjoy the thrill of
the Sky Bicycle, which lets you ride high above the water while feeling the
fresh spring breeze. If you are looking for a quiet escape, take a stroll along
the scenic walking trails or unwind in the serene forest retreat.
Haman
Nakhwa Nori Festival – A Dazzling Spectacle of Fire and Light
One
of the main reasons to visit Haman in May is the Haman Nakhwa Nori Festival.
This traditional fireworks display was discontinued during the Japanese
colonial period but was restored in 1985 as an annual cultural event.
The
nakhwabong (fire sticks) are made by filling hanji (traditional Korean papefar)
with oak charcoal powder, twisting it with a cotton wick, and lighting each one
individually. As the burning charcoal dust scatters, it creates the mesmerizing
effect of falling petals—hence the name ‘Nakhwa Nori’ or falling flower
fireworks. Some say the reflection of the shimmering embers on the Mujinjeong
pond resembles a celestial Milky Way.
The
festival is free to attend but requires prior reservation.
Ancient
tombs in Marisan Mountain – A historical journey to the Gaya Kingdom
Designated
as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ancient Tombs in Marisan Mountain is
assumed to be the tombs of Aragaya kings, with 37 large tombs lined up in a
remarkable formation. From the top of the site, visitors can enjoy a
breathtaking panoramic view of Haman’s vast landscape.
Just
below the tombs, the memorial displays artifacts excavated from the site,
offering a vivid glimpse into Gaya’s history. The museum also features detailed
recreations of the tomb interiors, providing a deeper understanding of this
remarkable historical heritage.
Mujinjeong
Pavilion – A glimpse into Joseon-era elegance
Once
a beloved retreat for scholars of the Joseon Dynasty, Mujinjeong Pavilion
offers a timeless charm, perfect for those in search of a peaceful escape.
Surrounded by lush greenery, the pavilion blends seamlessly with the tranquil
pond. A stroll around the pond and calls for immersion into the calming
atmosphere.
Haman’s
Culinary Delights – A Taste of Sweetness and Depth
No
trip is complete without savoring the local flavors, and Haman is no exception.
The
region is renowned for its Haman Watermelon, known for its exceptionally high
sugar content and juicy texture. As the birthplace of watermelon cultivation in
Korea, Haman produces some of the finest watermelons.
