Chinese
Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced a visa-free travel agreement for Danish
citizens during a meeting with his Danish counterpart, Lars Løkke Rasmussen,
according to an official press statement issued by Denmark's Ministry of
Foreign Affairs on Friday.
The
decision was made during discussions on the sidelines of the UN General
Assembly session in New York. The exact date for when the visa-free travel
policy will take effect has not yet been specified.
The
statement highlighted that the announcement was a key point in Wang's
discussions with Rasmussen, with both sides underscoring the importance of
their bilateral relationship, especially as they approach the 75th anniversary
of diplomatic ties in 2025.
Foreign
Minister Rasmussen expressed gratitude for the visa-free initiative, noting its
potential to significantly enhance cooperation and connections between the two
nations.
“The
meeting also touched on broader topics such as the green transition, trade
conditions, and Denmark's future role as a non-permanent member of the UN
Security Council,” the statement added.
The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the visa-free policy is expected to
boost tourism and promote greater exchanges between Denmark and China,
reflecting the deeper strategic partnership between the two countries. It
reiterated that Denmark is China's only comprehensive strategic partner in
Northern Europe.
China
has recently granted visa-free travel to several countries, including Norway.
