Lufthansa Group appoints Johannes Vogel as new Head of Human Resources at Eurowings

From 1 December 2025, Johannes Vogel (43) will assume the role of Head of Human Resources and Legal Affairs at Eurowings. He succeeds Anja Ratsch, who is moving to Frankfurt to take on a senior position in the Human Resources department of the Lufthansa Group, which employs more than 100,000 people worldwide.

New leadership for Eurowings

“We are delighted to have gained Johannes Vogel, a distinguished decision-maker, for Eurowings,” says Kai Duve, Managing Director Human Resources, Finance, and IT at Eurowings. “A young, ambitious team like Eurowings needs modern and forward-looking HR management that is persuasive both internally and externally on the job market. I am confident that Johannes will master this challenge with a fresh perspective and a high level of expertise.”

Career in politics and business

Vogel is widely regarded as an accomplished manager bridging politics and business. A long-serving member of the German Bundestag and former deputy leader of the liberal FDP party, he gained management experience in human resources at an early stage. At just 32, he joined the management team of the Federal Employment Agency, where he was tasked with reorganizing its international department on behalf of the Chair of the Executive Board. Later, as Chairman of the Management Board of the Solingen-Wuppertal Employment Agency, he led an organisation with around 400 employees.

Eurowings as strong market player

With around 5,500 employees, Eurowings is the market leader at key German airports including Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne, and Stuttgart. The airline focuses on European point-to-point traffic outside Lufthansa’s major hubs and currently operates more than 100 aircraft across 13 European bases. Over the past years, Eurowings has become a key profit contributor to the Lufthansa Group and expects to achieve a three-digit million profit for the third consecutive year in 2025.
