“Grandparents Day” is going to be celebrated for the first time. Where? In Antalya, because here, as in the whole of Turkey, people love and respect grandparents more than almost anywhere else.
Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, St Valentines Day and many more days are being celebrated to commemorate certain groups. There is a surprise from Turkey to all the world concerning those who probably deserve respect and their own “Day” the most, but are sometimes easily neglected; Grandmothers and Grandfathers.
Who does not remember the lovely days with their grandfather or grandmother, those who sweeten our childhood, with warm comfort, advice, fondness or even concrete help and support, mostly in times when we really needed them or when the parents were not at home?
But actually few of us returned the same amount of love and fondness to their grandparents. This is now about to change, at least one day a year, as a signal to extend this time for longer terms.
To testify that we have not forgotten the grandparents of the world, the first World Grandparents Day celebration is to be run in 2009 with the collaboration of several cultural civil organizations, routed by Tourexpi in Turkey.
World Grandparents Day is going public world-wide as an “A Gift from Turkey to all Grandfathers and Grandmothers” announcement.
The campaign is supposed to be announced soon as a gift from Turkey to all Grandfathers and grandmothers with the expected support of UNESCO and diverse cultural commissions of the EU.
8th of February has been chosen purposefully; it is about one week before St Valentines Day - 14th of February, so that we all remember that everything started with the Grandparents without whom we could not fall in love.
This special Day, should not be compared to the UN’s World Senior’s Day. We do not accept anyone to be called “old” or a “life-senior”. People are as old as they feel they are. It is against our principles to celebrate someone’s advanced age. We celebrate Grandparent’s Day, no matter when they were born. This is why we have chosen February. February stands for spring time, a new beginning and a new life.
Tourexpi has not just assured the support of official global institutions but also the support of the international media, which will soon declare this campaign as “A Gift From Turkey to all Grandfathers and Grandmothers of the World”.
Therefore, Tourexpi has arranged many special wide-spread programmes and travel packages for grandparents and their grandchildren.Tourexpi’s programme assures a strong back-up from the Turkish hotel sector which has also prepared many surprises for grandparents – visiting Turkey during February with their grandchildren.
This special day is being very welcomed and appreciated by the Turkish hotels as it will bring guests to Turkey right in the postseason while it will give the chance for grandparents, when the parents are at work, to enjoy holidays with their grandchildren who are of pre-school age, instead of staying home – all alone.
Gala dinners for grandparents, open-air activities, one attendant for each 15 children, workshops with educationalist’s attendance, special child-transport, advanced child activities, long term child care, mini clubs, children’s buffets and many more, will be provided by the hotel at no extra charge.
The attention is not only for the grandchildren but as for grandparents as well of course: Nurses and medical attendance during all activities, special “peace and silence” corners, special movie evenings with classic films, sports activities with permanent medical attendance and many more surprises will also be offered at no extra charge.
The basic idea of giving grandparents the chance to spend budget holidays with their grandchildren for long terms, like 4 weeks, is already really attracting Europe’s attention.
World Grandparents Day will end with a “Parade of love” in Antalya, accompanied and applauded by thousands of people from all over the world.
The campaign is being supported by Tourexpi with a maximum effort; it will introduce “Grandparents Day” world-wide in the German, English, Russian, Spanish and Turkish languages.
