Christine Yau, chairman of the London Chinese Community Centre calls for a campaign to relax visa restrictions for Chinese tourists wanting to visit London.
Ms. Yau, who has been involved with the Community Centre
since 1996, said that she thought the UK government should look again it policy
with regards to Schengen Agreement.
At the moment the UK is not a member of this agreement and
does not allow Chinese tourists to enter the UK without a visa.
The policy, she said, was deterring millions of Chinese
tourists from visiting the country as they opted for destinations such as
Denmark and France, which are easier for them to enter.
She said that Chinese tourists particularly liked England
and admired the education system and the NHS, but the country was failing to
attract high-spending Chinese tourists who could help lift the country from
recession.
Ms. Yau said that now was the time to start a campaign to
urge the government to revise its policy on entry into the country.
